My name is Renee McDougal and I am Board Certified Nurse Practitioner. My style of practice can be traditional (prescribing up-to-date psychiatric medications) or alternative medicine (natural treatments including but not limited to vitamins, supplements, lifestyle modification (exercise, food, etc.)). I also believe in the mind/body/spiritual connection, and we are made up as a whole person and not a series of parts. I believe that we are all inherently whole people, some with more challenges than others. Mental health is important for you and for those around you. We will work together to find a medication for you that helps you feel the best you can. I treat those who have depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar, and ADHD.
I began my medical career as a paramedic and firefighter in Colorado. After spending time helping people with their medical and emotional problems, I realized that healthcare was my passion and chose to expand my skill base. I decided to take a job working in dialysis and then to continue my education in nursing. Over the course of almost 20 years of working in healthcare, I have had the privilege of working in many practice areas, including primary care, emergency medicine, critical care, mental health, and dialysis. I have many years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.
I completed my education at Marian University and received a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. I then continued my graduate studies at Marian University and received a Doctor in Nursing Practice degree as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. To come full circle, I now teach in the department of nursing at Marian University and I love teaching!
I am married and have a big family with six children, two dogs, and two cats. My hobbies include reading, writing, beach activities, hiking, bicycling, and traveling.
