DNP, FNP-BC

My name is Renee McDougal and I am a doctorally prepared Board Certified Nurse Practitioner who is qualified to practice in both primary care and psychiatry. I am able diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication for children, adolescents, and adults.

My style of practice can be traditional (prescribing up to date psychiatric medications) or alternative medicine (natural treatments including but not limited to vitamins, supplements, lifestyle modification (exercise, food, etc.). I also believe in the mind/body/spiritual connection, and we are made up as a whole person and not a series of parts. I believe that we are all inherently whole people, some with more challenges than others. Mental health is important for you and for those around you. We will work together to find a medication for you that helps you feel the best you can. I treat those who have depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and ADHD. Research shows that psychotherapy and medication are the best treatment for some who have mental health diagnoses.

I began began my medical career as a paramedic and fire-fighter in Colorado. After spending time helping people with their medical and emotional problems, I realized this was my passion and chose to expand my skills base and I decided to take a job working in dialysis and then decided to continue my education into nursing. Over the course of fifteen years of working in healthcare, I have had the privilege of working in many practice areas, including primary care, emergency medicine, critical care, mental health, and dialysis. I have many years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults.

I completed my education at Marian University and received a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. I then continued with my  graduate studies at Marian University and received a Doctor in Nursing Practice degree as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. To come full circle, I now teach in the department of nursing at Marian University and I love teaching!

I am married and have a big family with six children, three dogs, and two cats. My hobbies include reading, writing, beach activities, hiking, bicycling, and traveling.
